"You should read my LJ posting," he said. "OK," I said.

Euuuuuuuuuuu.

I just had my breakfast -- which was, as usual, tea and toast -- but having seen the "All Day Breakfast"*, a guaranteed Pound O' Food, I will probably skip lunch.

(More on the subject here.)

*This being, by my calculation, how long it takes to digest it.

That is scary. I've eaten a lot of dubious breakfasts in greasy spoons, especially when I was doing cons on the cheap, but I don't think I ever saw anything like that. I think I'll now go and make something edible for my breakfast. There's a box of free range eggs in the fridge with really yellow yolks (yum).

Fortunately, [personal profile] megamole is on my friends list, so I saw this article a week or so ago, before I got the stomach upset that knocked me out for the whole of yesterday (I've just had a nice light breakfast and it's stayed down, so I'm clearly on the mend).

If I'd seen it for the first time this morning, I suspect it would have grievously delayed my recovery!

EWWWW, indeed. I think now I'll skip breakfast. And lunch. And maybe dinner, too.

ok, that's over 50% of a day's recommended calories and 98% of a day's recommended fat intake.

If I'm going to take in that many calories and that much fat, I'll go for something that looks like it might taste a lot better!

I'm more appalled by the excess of salt! A hearty breakfast is a good idea before an active day, as I well remember from my visit to Scotland. :-)

Does this really have more calories, more fat, or more cholesterol than, say, the Grand Slam at Denny's restaurants in the U.S., or my beloved "Trucker's Special" at the vanished, neon-lit 24 HOURS EAT diner in South Bend, Indiana?

Probably not -- and I'll bet that the restaurant meals actually have real eggs, not egg substitute.

A lot of the problem with this meal is that it has to survive being frozen; that does Weird Shit to things like eggs and pancakes. (The writer didn't say much about the pancakes, but to me they looked as if they'd be dry and flavorless.) And the hash browns (what's with this "home fries" bit? Those aren't any variety of fries at all) probably were underdone -- it's hard to combine all those disparate things and have them cook evenly in the same amount of microwave time, and potatoes take a lot longer than reheating pancakes.

(chuckle) I saw this a couple years ago, and have used the article to horrify friends since then.

It looks pretty vile, doesn't it? And it is - some friends and I got up enough nerve to try it once. But the review is hysterical.

I really need a "wretched excess" icon. May I swipe this, with credit?

I know Reichgut is Empire-good or something, but I can't help seeing it as an appropriate name for their business manager.

Usually, talking or reading about food makes me hungry. But not this time, I quite see what you mean about skipping lunch.

I liked the claimed reaction by the cats in the original article. Fortunately, cats aren't the target market :-) .

I worked as a chef in a resort. During the winter months logging and rescue ops went on. I oversaw the feeding of the folks doing that. I noticed that the rescue/snow patrol folks ate about 3500- 5000 calories a day, the loggers OTOH ate 13,000 a day and some still lost weight. I myself can't eat like that but I can see a need for meals of this type.

Egad. I think I need to go on Lipitor or something just from looking at that monstrosity... and I grew up with good ol' Polish cooking.

Hmmm - there's an alternate way to get the same nutritional intake:

1) Take two sticks of margarine, or one stick of butter.
2) Slather in mayonnaise
3) Coat with 1 quart bacon grease
4) Microwave for 30 seconds, or until bright blue flames start sprouting.
5) Allez Cuisine!
