Just another day in the great Long Room of Trinity's famous library. Except for once it wasn't being "borrowed" without credit by George Lucas.

Having earlier stopped in at Aras an Uachtarain to be greeted by the President of Ireland, and having then laid a wreath at the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin, Queen Elizabeth II went to Trinity College. She had a look at a facsimile of the Book of Kells, and then met with various folks associated with Trinity -- including one Professor Doctor Sir Terry Pratchett, his stalwart assistant Rob Wilkins, and the erudite Colin Smythe, writer-publisher extraordinaire.

Flash video of their meeting is embedded on the “Out of Ambit” page here:

iPhone, iPad, and other Apple folk, and any others who have trouble with Flash, can download an .mpg file from this link.

Enjoy!

Thanks for that. Of course the first thing I picked out of the soundtrack was the harp being played; just a brief snatch at the beginning. I hope they brought in a replica of the Brian Boru harp, and someone who could play it.

The lady who was playing was named (assuming the spelling here) Siobhan Armstrong, described as "a very eminent harpist and encourager of the revival of the Irish harp; she has founded and chairs the Historical Harp Society of Ireland." She was playing on a replica, and the original was in a glass case right next to her.

(There was some amusement in the Tweetstream (#queensvisit, very busy yesterday and today) as Prince Philip sort of glommed onto her and had to be pried loose a little when HM went on.)

An excellent choice of harp and harper for the occasion, then. Thanks. :)

She spells it with an acute accent over the 'a' apparently (I don't know Irish to know how or whether that affects the pronunciation). Well done to them, having both herself and the replica harp.

And belated congratulations to Professor Doctor Sir Uncle Pterry, I'd missed the news about him becoming Professor (he's been 'uncle' to many of us since the early conventions he attended).

Thanks also for the mpg file, it was a lot easier to download and watch than it would have been to watch Flash with it stopping every few seconds to load its buffer.
