It had to happen, didn't it? (As a commercial product, I mean. Heaven knows it's been around SF conventions in one form or another forever.) And naturally, it now happens as an energy drink.

"Romulan Ale Star Trek Energy Drink will not make you drunk. What it will do is ramp up your body for anything. It's got vitamins (like B6 and B12), ginseng, and loads of caffeine (84 mg per easy-to-drink-in-one-sitting-because-it-tastes-so-good can), all wrapped up in a yummy berry taste. And it's blue. Aaaand, it comes in a six pack, just like you'd get at your local Romulan Quickie Mart. Romulan Ale Star Trek Energy Drink is full of alien technology and taste to keep you awake and alert. You know, so you can keep on trekkin' (sorry, we had to)."

(headclutch) Oh well.

Hmmm... I guess folks will have to dilute it a bit, say with a tripple tot of vodka or gin? ;)

That would seem to be a requirement. One would've thought that the dilution would be required at the bottler-equivalent before it could be sold at either the LCBO or Beer Store chains here in Ontario.

The vitamin mix in there isn't really spectacular, but isn't horrible. I've got an odd brain (chemical wise), so I started learning how the energy drinks work. The B6/12 are what usually make an energy drink work, the Taurine is a bit high, the Inositol a bit low. And thankfully there is no sucralos in there (churns my stomach up fierce). I'd give it a B- as far as energy drinks go. But the name and can design are cool.

I assume Paramount (or whoever has the rights) has okayed this? Of course, as it's non-alcoholic, I doubt the Romulans have *g*

Ahahahaha, I facepalmed and laughed so hard when I saw these were going to be released to the public.

On the flipside, good to see Star Trek is still going strong <3

Heh, I always just pulled the label off a bottle of blue Gatorade and called it "Romulan Ale."

The same label/distributor also has sold a 'real beer' Romulan Ale, under official license as I recall (hence the Next Gen Rihanna--er,um, excuse me -- Romulan sigil) ...

And yes, as the reviews stated -- it's blue Budwiser. Your basic pilsner w/blue food coloring. I tried it once--it was unbelievably bland. Lots of the reviewers said 'bland with a side of Its-gone-bad'.

Back in 1996, one of my Cousins visited me after recently returning from visiting his Sister, who was in Switzerland at the time, and brought back an empty can of 'WARP 4', which was an Energy Drink....which included Taurin and Caffein, as well as various Vitamins and other Ingredients

I've never noticed it out here in Australia, so I'm guessing it was only available in Europe

That aside....

I've been making my own Saurian Brandy since 1996 (merely a coincidence there) from the Recipe in 'The Official Star Trek Cooking Manual' (1978) by Mary Ann Piccard (probably no Relation :-p), and I have often considered selling it as such, but for fear of the almighty Paramount Lawyers :-(

Maybe, now that this 'Romulan Ale' is available, I could approach said Lawyers in the hope that they might be more willing to allow such?

Indeed, it's a wonder they haven't thought of something like this before, and marketed all the main Alcoholic Drinks when they had the chance to do so

Not much point, for example, trying to market Cardassian Kanar now (even though it *did* get a mention in the recent Movie as I recall), but, had they done so during DS-9, they would have had their market-base right there!!

Similarly of course with Klingon Blood Wine, and various other Drinks

Oh well....we'll see what happens with this 'Romulan Ale' I guess :-)

As it isn't available outside US and Canada on that site I'm unlikely to get to try it.
Though having read the ingredient list, I'm not sure I want to, as the Artificial flavours come before the Natural ones.

World of Warcraft beat them to it. (http://www.toywiz.com/woofwabcodr.html)

The energy drink folks have been trying to nail the geek/nerd market for years, because *everyone knows* we all do nothing but sit in our parents' basement and watch old vids & play video games.
