And this is why immersive VR sims are never going to really catch on. At least not until we all get plugs for our brains so we can avoid the whole [fingerquote]exercise[/fingerquote] thing.

I know you're laughing, but I'm looking at that and going, "Hmmm, sounds like a good idea."

I mean, they've already got the whole Wii-fit thing for Nintendo. I already treadmill while listening to the radio. And if those guys could maintain a 6 mph pace (3.5 mph is a rather fast walking pace and what's recommended for walkers at my workplace's fitness center) while playing, they're to be commended.

Granted, doing cosplay while treading is hysterical, but the whole treadmill-while-playing thing...

Oh my yes... then I wouldn't have to stop WoW in order to fit my required wii-fit regime in (it's really the only regular exercise that it is possible for me to do - mentally and physically) ;)

Actually, if I had a treadmill hooked up to World of Warcraft, I think I would actually play. Of course, nobody would want to play with me, as I'd be huffing and puffing at the back.

'Guys, guys! Wait for me!'

Nobody wants something *that* real, haha.

Simple: fit a set of gears on the treadmill connection; you can then select one of a number of different treadmill speeds to suit your general fitness level.

Most treadmills come with incline and speed settings. Hooking it up to make your movements match the characters is a Stupid Idea (tm) for a variety of reasons, but setting things up so as to encourage using the exercise device while gaming is perhaps useful sometimes.

I shall have to share that with my friends on the GM Floor....

Actually, in an attempt to get myself back to some reasonable level of not-going-to-die-from-bad-lifestyle, I have a treadmill setup for my computer.

When I was using it regularly, I was able to knock 20 points off my blood sugars (huzzah for type 2 diabetes) and had somewhat improved in other numbers.

This worked when surfing LJs, playing City of Heroes, and even sometimes working from home.

However, due to an illness I stopped... and as with many other Good Ideas I have to overcome massive mental inertia to get it going again.

Is such a setup something you can buy, or something you have to jury-rig?

In theory you can buy one; google "treadmill PC workstation" ... but in actuality I decided to build one myself, and bought a bunch of stuff and assembled my own.

I'm not totally happy with what I have, but it works well enough.

Oh, that is delicious!
I'm fond of joking, as we're running up the endless stairs in Karazhan, that if only I ran this many stairs in real life, I would be a lot more fit and trim!

Stairs?? Just running back & forth from Goldshire to Redridge would do it. ;)

Or back and forth from Razor Hill to Orgrimmar, or anywhere in the Barrens to anywhere else in the Barrens, for those of us who prefer the Horde ;)
