Folks, just a quick word: this week has become unusually disrupted due to other work that’s going on in-house, so I’m going to have to postpone the chapter posting until just after the 27th. Unfortunately the chapter’s just not ready to go up yet, the in-house crisis won’t allow any work on any other projects until the weekend — when we’re due to be at the Discworld convention in Birmingham — and even then opportunities for work will be understandably spotty until Wednesday.

(sigh) I’m so sorry about this. Life this month just has not been going to plan. More shortly, however.

My favorite maxim has always been "Life is what happens while you're making other plans".

There's a saying in war that in an engagement, a plan is the first casualty. That seems to be true for life too.

Yep. That's von Moltke, I think. "No battle plan survives contact with the enemy."

...there's a Discworld convention? Damnit, why don't I ever know these things until it's too late.

There's been one every two years (excluding 2000) for a while now.

On the other side of the country four days after I leave for England.

Maybe I can just go and sit in Mr. Pratchett's bushes for a few hours.

We'll be there too - meet and say "Hi!"? (My default icon is a fair likeness save that I now wear glasses most of the time - should update it I s'pose.)

Well, at least this is good for those of us who're also going to the Discworld convention - means I've got something to look forward to when I get home! *g* See, there's always a bright side...

Well, at least it's not just me, then. But life this month has definitely not been going according to plan.

I hope the craziness sorts itself out with the minimum of fuss. I really must at least start to pack my bags for DWCon tonight, or I'll never get there in time on Friday...

Yeah, re Friday: if anybody's looking for us in the bar Friday evening, they should be told that this work thing means we won't be at the con until Saturday afternoon (our Klatsch is being moved to later in the day).

Actually, it turns out the Klatsch has been moved to Sunday afternoon -- 5 PM, it looks like (I have yet to have this confirmed by email, but that's what my programme person thinks).

well if you fall off the programme entirely you could always head north to Leeds and take in the Wonderful World of WETA exhibit at the armouries.

New Zealand's Weta Workshop has won countless awards for its work on major films such as The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, King Kong, The Last Samurai and Hellboy.

Now, in a unique exhibition, the Royal Armouries Museum is proud to present over 200 pieces of arms and armour produced by the Workshop’s craftsmen.

See, at close quarters, the weapons wielded by Gandalf, Frodo Baggins, Aragorn, Faramir and Boromir in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Peter's armour and the White Witch’s dagger from The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe as well as pieces from King Kong, The Last Samurai and Hellboy.

diane, do we get to drunkenly serenade and provide a victory arch for whichever poor newly weds are unfortunate enough to be staying there again?

(heh heh) I'd forgotten about that. I'd say we couldn't possibly let that opportunity go by. :)

Probably still not as memorable as the couple who were in the same Glasgow hotel as either an Albacon or a Who con that ended up with a full size Dalek in all their photos. Apparently the bride took a shine to it...

I tend to watch the community [livejournal.com profile] mock_the_stupid because every once in a while, gems like this (http://cgi.ebay.com/Montauk-Monster-Toast_W0QQitemZ120290068688QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item120290068688&_trkparms=72%3A1074%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1318) pop up on it. The final bid on that is outrageous - but I thought you might find it funny, considering the curiosity surrounding the Montauk Monster.
