I saw it for the first time about twenty minutes ago and laughed until I wept.

(For those of you unfamiliar with Irn Bru, the soft drink allegedly "Made In Scotland From Girders" (roll those R's when you say it!), click here for the Wikipedia entry.)

Though the bits showing snow on the ground in Edinburgh are clearly fantasy.

That is a riot. Thank you for sharing it, as I don't watch enough TV to see it otherwise.

That was last season's best commercial north of the border... tears not so much of laughter from me, but of homesickness :'-)

Some of the other Irn Bru ads over time are pretty good as well - my faves are amongst the black & white ones (the grandpa, the baby being born and the granny). YouTube has them, as ever.

Good but not as good as the spoof coke ads they made a while back.

We've got the Christmas songs on a loop at work now and every time they play the original song I sing the Irn-Bru lyrics instead...heee :D

oooh! What's the original song? This was my first exposure and the song was quite beautiful.

I giggled, although I'm apparently missing some of the background that makes it truely hysterical.

"I'm Walking in the Air" was the main theme of the 1982 animated special The Snowman, (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084701/) which was produced by Channel 4 in the UK. Peter Auty, a choirboy at St. Paul's Cathedral, did the vocal. (Boy soprano Aled Jones recorded the best-known version of the song several years later.)

The Irn Bru ad is also taking off Snowman's distinctive animation style. YouTube has a clip of the original Snowman "fly-over" here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KRDCD_O4Cs)

Thank you! :)

I grew up watching the original animation every year.

My American husband just won't get it. But I laughed so hard I scared the cats.

What a fabulous parody of the original -- they've got the look and style nailed down exactly. A perfect antidote to too much holiday mush . . .

Now I wanna know what this stuff tastes like. Bein' in Idaho, however, I think I'm out of luck. ;)
