I should have mentioned this earlier, but it's been busy...

We've been doing an Irish recipe festival over at EuropeanCuisines.com: a new traditional Irish recipe every day until March 17th. If you're looking for something to make for the upcoming holiday, stop by and see if there's something that suits you. (Check the top of the left-hand column: the day-by-day list is there.)

Also, the rant about corned beef and cabbage not being the Irish national dish at all now has its own home over there, so I can stop posting about it here every year.

Now back to work...

Thanks, Diane. My Irish-American family grew up in South Boston, Massachusetts. Every year, we would go to the St. Patrick's Day parade and then head over to the house of my grandma's cousin for a "traditional" boiled dinner of corned beef, turnips, cabbage, and potatoes. Albert cooked from morning 'til night, and always had an open door policy for the hungry travelers. *Sadly, he passed away last year. He will be sorely missed.*

In Orlando, FL, there is a fairly new restaurant called Raglan Road that prepares other Irish dishes. If you ever have the chance to visit the Disney area, I'd love to hear your opinion on their food. ^_^
I'm interested in genuine recipes to prepare this week. I'll definitely be checking EuropeanCuisines. com out.

I'll have to pass that link to my mom, who, until I mentioned it to her, had no idea that corned beef and cabbage was not what Irish people eat on St. Patrick's Day. :)

(And, admittedly, I didn't know either until you mentioned it on your blog last year!)

I found the idea of chips for breakfast (with a cheese omelette)on Sunday morning, rather strange - and very Irish, as it showed how important the potato is to the Irish.

And while you're at it, could you do something about the assumption that any dessert you eat on 'St. Patty's Day' is required by law to have Guinness in it, please?

The work canteen says they are doing 'coddle' tomorrow in celebration, I'll see whether it's anything like your description. I don't think any of the staff are Irish...

Aha! Now I have somewhere I can point all my American friends to when they start harping on about cabbage and corned beef! Thank you!
