Over at Kittenbreak.com, things are looking cute...

But some things are rather broken.

Want a kitten? Hire an adoption lawyer

May a kindly Providence guard us from the day when we need an adoption lawyer to take home a kitten....

Meanwhile, we keep our use of AdSense to a minimum until we're sure it can be controlled.

When I adopted my previous dog from the Humane Society, I thought I was going to need an adoption lawyer: I was 20, had personally guaranteed college loans and credit cards, had long standing bank accounts, owned and drove a car, was legal to drink, and had voted in a presidental election, but was not allowed to sign the adoption contract! (My mother had to: *she* was over 21.)

However...

When I picked up the pair of Siamese sisters who currently allow me to graciously look after them, I got them from a rescue shelter and was required to sign adoption papers defining that I would take care of them and that someone from the shelter would be out to check sometime within two years of my adopting them.

And, apart from [livejournal.com profile] dynamicsiamesed determining that the best time to chase madly around the apartment after pixies/shadows/ghosts/each other is at 11 pm or Sheba's habit of (literally) climbing the walls, it's been good.

But you're right, no lawyer yet.

I dunno, some of the stories you hear it almost makes me think that'd be a good idea... but then when I'm feeling particually cynical I also think that parenting licences might not be such a bad thing either!

I wouldn't be surprised if the local no-kill cat shelter requires one now. When we went, it was a home visit, interview process, and proof of your other cats' vaccinations. They looked at us like we'd admitted to dumping toxic waste on an elementary school when we said that yess, sometimes the cats squeeze by us into the mystical workld of Outside when the door is open and we have to chase them down. We smiled and were charming and polite, then beat a hasty retreat and got a cat from the humane society.

That's not a kitten, that's Batman! Check out the ears!

I can't personally keep cats, because I live in a flat with no garden access and am away from home often enough that feeding would be a problem, but my sister had a similar sort of home check etc. thing when she got her two cats a few years ago. Necessary, I suppose.

Finished it today. Loved it. Wonderful blend of geography, history, mythology, fantasy, and fiction. Very deftly told, IMO.

Got any more? =)

Those cats are just too adorable. Thanks, I needed a furry pick-me-up.

I realize this is typically a Potter free zone, so I’ll beg forgiveness in advance. Your comment about Google AdSense reminded of a Google search I did last year for ‘Lord Voldemort.’ To the side of the search popped up the Google ad proclaiming, ‘Search for employment opportunities with Lord Voldemort.’ Hubby and I had a big laugh over the image of all these evil dark lords doing employment searches for their minions through Google ads.
