Now here’s something worth watching, in an idle sort of way, to see where it goes…

Cartoon Network unveiled an upcoming slate of video games based on its original programming, in cooperation with Midway Games, the Game Factory, Crave Entertainment and D3 Publisher of America. Fans can expect to see titles based on such hits as "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends," "Camp Lazlo," "The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy," "Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi" and "Aqua Teen Hunger Force"...

(Thanks to Ars Technica for the heads-up.)

I don't know what to make of this... working in a video game store, I've been seeing Nickelodeon's games going by for so long... standard platform adventures, and not hugely creative- mostly aimed to grab a kid's attention to their favorite characters to get them (read: their parents) to buy the game. If CN can break the mold, and do it without bugs, I'll be impressed and gleeful.

Regardless, I'd probably still buy a game about Aqua Team Hunger Force regardless of subject matter...! That, and a soft spot for racing games like the one they mentioned. :D

Certainly in the past, I've seen adverts on Cartoon Network for simple games based on, for example, Johnny Bravo. Some online on the website, some as interactive games on the TV set (or rather, the set-top box). However, this looks like they've decided they can actually make money from them.

Let's hope the results are better than your average film/tv tie-in franchise.

The tepid tie-in offerings are exactly what I'm afraid of. If Cartoon Network could shine in this area, it'd really be something else.

If they bring out a game based on "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy" for my Playstation, I am so having it. In the unliley event that they bring it out for the Mac, well, bye bye productivity (what little there was).

I'd rather just have the cartoons on DVD though...

Well considering how tepid the responce to the Powerpuff Girls games was, or the complete lack of interest for the CN toons on GBA-Video...I fail to see what the big deal is.
