Hills Prescription k/d

As of this weekend we'll be running out of the supply of special kidney-friendly cat food that the vet's office sent home with Mr. Squeak after his hospital stay. Now it's time to start ordering it seriously, and jeezLouise is that stuff expensive. Also, in our neck of the woods you have to order it in bulk from the distributor... which means a minimum of 40-unit cases. Still: it's in a good cause.

So it's time to have a sale at the DD.com ebook shop! From this morning (meaning 0900 UTC), April 16, until Monday morning (again, 0900 UTC), April 18, we're offering a 25%-off sale on all ebooks in the shop. (ETA: due to popular demand, this offer has been extended to / through Tuesday morning (0900 UTC), April 19th.)

This discount offer includes:

  • And the Young Wizards International Editions. (Purchasers outside the US and Canada only, please!) Including:
(For those interested: the other four books are still in production, but we expect to have them all up by mid-May.)
Not Particularly

To get your discount, all you need to do is enter the coupon code CATFOOD at the checkout page. This will deduct 25% from your final total. And for customers taking advantage of this offer: you can use the coupon TWICE over the course of the weekend if you want to. The discount is also valid for DD.Com Shop gift certificates, so you can save on a gift for someone else too.

So shop early and often! And thanks in advance to all of you who elect to assist us in what we hope will be a long battle with the prescription catfood wholesaler.  :)

...And now it's time for a gratuitous cat picture, showing the senior cat in healthier days. (BTW, if you want to see some more of Squeaky, click here to view a nice selection of photos of him at Flickr.)

Yes, it did when I tried it this morning. Duly ordered catfood now. And two of the other password emails arrived this evening, the third is stil missing.

Ah, I just looked at the headers. The first one was sent on Saturday at 07:56 TZ -07:00 (14:56 UT) according to p3nlhjava003.shr.prod.phx3.secureserver.net. That's probably about right. It was then received by the same machine on Sunday at 06:32 TZ -07:00 -- almost a day later! It then went straight through to Gmail with no problem. The same with the second, except that it was originated about 3 hours later but delivered at almost the same time.

However, the one I requested this morning arrived almost immediately.

I think they had problems. It looks to me like some sort of mail queue crash. These things happen, even in my software (I'm kidding, my software is of course perfect -- as long as only I run it, if anyone else tries to use it they find bugs, this obviously means that the bugs are the users' fault *g*).

I too saw that there were a bunch of confirmation mails that should have come through immediately when people made purchases, and didn't show up until the next day. We're trying to figure out what the heck has been going on.

Unfortunately DD.com is hosted at a very large provider that makes it difficult to get fast answers on problems. I've been thinking seriously of moving it to our other provider, FutureQuest. Unfortunately the present provider has unlimited bandwidth and disk storage -- which FQ sadly does not -- and this has left me leaning toward keeping the domain hosted where it is. Argh, this imperfect world...

Not Your Fault *tm*. If I can provide any extra information which will help to clear up when and what happened (like the raw email headers) please ask. I see what you mean about the ISPs, a dilemma...
