Hills Prescription k/d

As of this weekend we'll be running out of the supply of special kidney-friendly cat food that the vet's office sent home with Mr. Squeak after his hospital stay. Now it's time to start ordering it seriously, and jeezLouise is that stuff expensive. Also, in our neck of the woods you have to order it in bulk from the distributor... which means a minimum of 40-unit cases. Still: it's in a good cause.

So it's time to have a sale at the DD.com ebook shop! From this morning (meaning 0900 UTC), April 16, until Monday morning (again, 0900 UTC), April 18, we're offering a 25%-off sale on all ebooks in the shop. (ETA: due to popular demand, this offer has been extended to / through Tuesday morning (0900 UTC), April 19th.)

This discount offer includes:

  • And the Young Wizards International Editions. (Purchasers outside the US and Canada only, please!) Including:
(For those interested: the other four books are still in production, but we expect to have them all up by mid-May.)
Not Particularly

To get your discount, all you need to do is enter the coupon code CATFOOD at the checkout page. This will deduct 25% from your final total. And for customers taking advantage of this offer: you can use the coupon TWICE over the course of the weekend if you want to. The discount is also valid for DD.Com Shop gift certificates, so you can save on a gift for someone else too.

So shop early and often! And thanks in advance to all of you who elect to assist us in what we hope will be a long battle with the prescription catfood wholesaler.  :)

...And now it's time for a gratuitous cat picture, showing the senior cat in healthier days. (BTW, if you want to see some more of Squeaky, click here to view a nice selection of photos of him at Flickr.)

"Sirronde's World 1: The Span"

Hold on, have I missed this? Or has it not been out in dead tree edition at all? (And if #3 is free, what happened to #2?)

The thought that there are books by Diane Duane which I don't have (and possibly haven't even known existed) is ... disturbing.

(And I have decided to join the 21st Century and get an eReader. There are getting to be too many books in e-formats only...)

My guess would be that #2 was published in a magazine or anthology that still retains rights to it. Part 1 was apparently in Dragon magazine in Febuary 1999 while 3 was in the anthology Flashing Swords 5 which was published in, lets see... 1981? Okay, so that doesn't help narrow things down any...

:) Actually, #2 hasn't been written yet. That project is scheduled for late this summer, after YW #10 and the third Omnitopia book go in. Once Sirronde #2 is finished, the three works will be bundled together as a single ebook. I'm mulling over whether to add "Lior and the Sea" to that group or to put it in the next general anthology instead.

OK, that's just trying to confuse me *g*.

No, actually I can see it. You wrote two stories which happened to be the start and the end, and still have to write the middle. I'm actually glad that a professional author does that sometimes, because I always feel guilty about that sort of thing.

I'll wait...

Gah, I would definitely support Mr. Squeak's kidney-friendly food, but I'm pretty sure I'd get punched in the face if I ordered anything else online.

I hope all goes well!

Hmm, the site is refusing to let me in. It's possible that I've forgotten the password, so I've requested a new on -- three times now, and it says each time that it is sendng me email with a new one but have received none.

Note: I can receive mail there fine, I just tested that -- keristor AT gmail DOT com if that helps trace the problem...

It took me multiple attempts to get a new password, but it worked this morning.

Yes, it did when I tried it this morning. Duly ordered catfood now. And two of the other password emails arrived this evening, the third is stil missing.

Ah, I just looked at the headers. The first one was sent on Saturday at 07:56 TZ -07:00 (14:56 UT) according to p3nlhjava003.shr.prod.phx3.secureserver.net. That's probably about right. It was then received by the same machine on Sunday at 06:32 TZ -07:00 -- almost a day later! It then went straight through to Gmail with no problem. The same with the second, except that it was originated about 3 hours later but delivered at almost the same time.

However, the one I requested this morning arrived almost immediately.

I think they had problems. It looks to me like some sort of mail queue crash. These things happen, even in my software (I'm kidding, my software is of course perfect -- as long as only I run it, if anyone else tries to use it they find bugs, this obviously means that the bugs are the users' fault *g*).

I too saw that there were a bunch of confirmation mails that should have come through immediately when people made purchases, and didn't show up until the next day. We're trying to figure out what the heck has been going on.

Unfortunately DD.com is hosted at a very large provider that makes it difficult to get fast answers on problems. I've been thinking seriously of moving it to our other provider, FutureQuest. Unfortunately the present provider has unlimited bandwidth and disk storage -- which FQ sadly does not -- and this has left me leaning toward keeping the domain hosted where it is. Argh, this imperfect world...

Not Your Fault *tm*. If I can provide any extra information which will help to clear up when and what happened (like the raw email headers) please ask. I see what you mean about the ISPs, a dilemma...

I don't have an ebook reader (because I live in the stone age and like the smell of used book stores) so I had to find an epub reader for my computer. Here is the one I am using, which was a free download for Firefox users:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/epubreader/
And now I am off to read Uptown Local, which I have been looking forward to for AGES.

Bought three books, and am patiently waiting for Sirronde #1 in .mobi, and I'll grab that one too. ;)

Help! I have bought all the books I could get from your store in epub, but I am not able to download them. I kept trying different ways to do it with Sirronde's World, and now it's telling me I've already downloaded it 5 times, I'm not allowed to download any more, but I still don't have it! who do I contact for help?

The discount doesn't apply to gift vouchers as I was going to effectively buy the authors cut versions of the first four books now.

Discount Coupon: CATFOOD :

Hope Mr Squeak gets his proper food.

ARGH, sorry about that. Apparently there is some kind of bug preventing the discount from applying -- we're trying to figure out what it is. (Seriously, though, Zen Cart is becoming a nuisance... we're thinking of going over to something WordPress-based.

I would totally buy all the stories in an e format if I could afford to! I was recently laid off (after spending 9 months looking for a job!) and just have no money. I *DID* purchase Uptown Local to help with the Vet bill...
