I can understand that. I get that feeling for London sometimes even though it's nearly 20 years since I left there.

I get the same feelings for Miami, although I haven't lived there in almost 20 years.

You're not alone. Last week I was back in Michigan, where I haven't lived for nearly 40 years, and it got me feeling homesick.

Of course, it didn't hurt that autumn is my favorite time of the year, and that the weather was flat-out gorgeous while I was there, and that the trees were in full and riotous color...

Yeah. I get something similar when I hear that the Jakaranda trees are in flower...

As someone who'd give her eye teeth to live in NYC, I'm curious: would you move back if opportunity arose?

They don't have pumpkins (squash?) and yellow taxis in Ireland? :D

I imagine that they don't have the usual public displays of Thanksgiving turkeys and pumpkins...

Pumpkins we have. Yellow cabs, not so much. (And definitely not ones that say NYC TAXI on the sides.)

It's something that's crossed my mind. But the expense is a concern... and the increased bureaucracy. And the logistics. Having moved across an ocean once, I can tell you, there are some complex logistical issues involved.

All the same, the subject keeps coming up, since I was born in Manhattan -- and some of the happiest (and most hectic) times in my life before I started writing professionally were spent there.

Long Island would be good too, though. The North Fork in particular. While I was raised closer to the South Shore, the countryside around Orient Point really attracts me. Who knows... someday, maybe...

Yes, I can imagine the red tape and the expense. It's why I'm praying I win the lottery :) I don't know Long Island terribly well, only seen bits of it from the LIRR on my way to Glen Cove and Locust Valley, but my friend who lives there assures me it has its virtues. But I'd love to live in the city.

I get homesick for somewhere I've never been...
it's kinda hard to explain.

Because you need to see it --

U.S. politics as an RPG
GM: OK, the bugbear attacks you. What do you do?

OBAMA: I send one of my 672 henchmen after it.

MCCAIN: OK, seriously. Why does he have so many henchmen? I'm a level 72 ranger and he's only a level 8 paladin.

And so it goes...
