Sometimes panic will do this for people - way back when someone coming over the hill next to the apartment building we lived in at the time came off the road on a curve ('twas a wet day), flew over a wall, landed on the car next to mine in the parking lot, slid off, and landed on its side sandwiched between the next car and mine. A cop came to the door to inform us of this with the strangest look on his face. I understood fully once I saw it I didn't know if I should laugh or cry myself. It was pretty funny looking. The local paper ran a photo captioned "Having trouble finding a place to park?"
Anyway, the driver got out and ran home in a panic, then ran back when she calmed down enough to realize what had happened. So she was there to talk to the police about it all. The poor car next to mine was totaled; mine just had a batch of scratches and dents that needed repair but didn't keep me from driving it to work. (Mercifully - getting to work from there WITHOUT a car involved getting up before the sun, two buses, and the Bay Area Rapid Transit system. The first bus had to be flagged down with a flashlight - or as on one memorable day, a plastic light saber.)
