I can't think of the last time I listened to open-air radio; I went satellite two years ago and love *that* so much that I don't even have cable TV anymore. I don't stream stations except very infrequently, although it was interesting to give a listen to my old college station *mumbletymumble* years after I was on-air ("This is WCWS 91 FM! Three hundred throbbing watts of power, serving the greater campus area... depending on the wind!")...
I could see using that to queue up a few choice MP3s designed to get my tail out of bed, though...
One of the reasons I've kept my AOL account all these years is for the Internet Radio feature (which now includes some XM channels). I wish I could get Fiona Richie's Thistle & Shamrock show, although she podcasts now.
http://www.publicradiofan.com/cgibin/program.pl?programid=465 This is a list of online stations netcasting Fiona Richie's Thistle & Shamrock show. I use it (www.publicradiofan.com) for Hearts of Space also since Minneapolis public radio doesn't do HoS anymore. I know Mac OS X has apps that will record from the net at times & stations you want. I'd imagine Windows & Linux has them also. BTW go to the site of the station you like and check the times as this list is a bit inaccurate.
That sounds like the beast I've been threatening to build for ages now, because BBC Radio 3 doesn't play classical music in the evening when I'm going to sleep. The only drawback is that I don't have wireless LAN (I use wires, both for speed and security), but I could put on a special wireless router. Thanks for the link!
It's possible to put something similar together using a wifi enabled hand-held computer and some alarm software that launches programs. I use my palm pilot as an alarm clock using what ever music is on it, but could make it run from an internet radio too with some fiddling. (I use Pocket Tunes and 2 Play Me)
Well, we have NewsTalk (http://www.newstalk.ie/) now, which has some vague similarities, in drivetime anyway. But the format isn't anywhere near so concise as 1010's.
