I currently have visions of Paisley changing his mind, and standing at the doors of Parliament on May 8th in a red cloak, clutching shield and sword, barring the way to Gerry, Martin et al, shouting "THIS! IS! STORMONT!"
Excuse me, I need to check that the walls between the worlds are still up. I think something slipped through from another dimension. I was sure the peace process would slowly move forward, but I never thought I'd see this.
As someone who was beaten up in the 70s a) at an Irish school for having English parents, and b) at an English school for having parents in Ireland; let me say this is a day that has been long looked-for.
It may not be the end, etc., etc., as Winnie the Churchill once remarked, but at least it's making for some excellent caption competiition entries on the InterTubes. My favourite so far is:"Adams and Paisley apologise for failure of Blair-Brown power-sharing deal", from Harry's Place (http://hurryupharry.bloghouse.net) (no relation).
One can only hope that things really work out this time around...unfortunately, every other time, Mr. Paisley & Co have found some reason to go back on their agreement.
I still think that what is needed is something like South Africa's "Truth & Reconciliation" process. But that's just me.
