I know exactly what you mean about the weird sideways associational flashes. I, too, get them all the time.
I'm also pretty much with you on the politics; that's about the most sensible summary I've ever seen. The only exception is that I frankly wouldn't know what to do with a sword, but I do know what to do with a pen, and that is said to be mightier. :-)
