For those of you unwilling to wait for the release of the book proper: From the Simon & Schuster e-book blog --

We have yet another advance eBook release this month — Rihannsu Book Five: The Empty Chair by Diane Duane. Capping off the 40th anniversary celebration of Star Trek, the long awaited conclusion of New York Times bestselling author Diane Duane’s saga Rihannsu featuring Captain Kirk and the crew of the legendary Starship Enterprise finally arrives.

This title will go on-sale Monday, October 23rd.

The previous four Rihannsu titles are also all available in eBook: Rihannsu Book One: My Enemy, My Ally; Rihannsu Book Two: The Romulan Way; Rihannsu Book Three: Swordhunt; and Rihannsu Book Four: Honor Blade.

Additionally, all four of these titles will be released as an omnibus collection, Rihannsu: The Bloodwing Voyages, next month.

...

well, now I feel dumb.

My library's had Rihannsu Book Three: Swordhunt for ages, and I haven't read it because they didn't have Book One or Book Two -- not even for interlibrary loan; the computer catalog professed ignorance of any such books -- and I didn't want to come in in the middle.

Except I already own Book One and Book Two. I just didn't realize they'd been retitled.

*headdesks*

On the bright side, I know what I'm getting from the library next week!

Great. It's been a long wait but it will be worth it. Never been disappointed by your take on Star Trek yet. Think I'll wait for the dead tree version tho. I find reading ebooks gives me eyestrain (and I wouldn't want to take an ebook reader into the bath).

Oh, awesome. :D Definitely going to buy it. And probably the paperback when it comes out, too.

What wonderful news for the day that scientists have announced the creation of the first cloaking device (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6064620.stm). :)

Yay! finally! Love your Rhihannsu and Vulcans! Too many writers tend to do them as humans with pointy ears!

God, isn't that the truth. Or (in the case of the Romulans) as indistinguishable from Picard-era Klingons.

And the less said about Picard-era Klingons, the better.

Absolutely. If they're going to make a new ST tv series it ought to be Battlecruiser Vengeance.

I don't actually mind Picard-era Klingons.

They're just not Romulans.

Gah... defintly. Hey, ever notice that in ST:TNG the baddies were always darker skinned?

The Cardassians and Ferengi weren't.

Not at first, but as the series progressed, and moved into DS9, they got progressivily darker... although in the cardassians case that's a relative term, since they started out pale grey and ended up somewhere around 'olive'.

I've been wondering why the omnibus collection doesn't actually include all five. Is there a reason for that (beyond publisher politics, that is)?

Woohoo.. finally we get to find out what happened! Ye gods and little fishes though, it's been so long I'll have to reread the whole lot from start just so I can remember everything... [yeah, like that's a hardship!]

Marco Palmieri (one of the Pocket editors) announced this on the various Trek lit BBSes about a week ago. This is about the only second good piece of TrekLit news since they downsized the line—the first being that The Empty Chair was scheduled for December. :D

Oh, I totally forgot I read those books.. Now I must know what happened. I probably should brush up, being all of three years since.

Hi. :) Random person here. Feel free to ignore me.

Do you participate in National Novel Writting Month? I've been dying to know if some of my favorite authors do.

I'll be waiting for the hardcopy edition, thanks.

I've been traumatised enough by the news of the Canadian edition of TV Guide going web-only from here onward, today...

Woohoo! Now I have two lemmas, whether to buy the new book when it comes out, or to wait until the omnibus version comes out and get them both together (my copies of the earlier books are getting a little worn from re-reading).

(Amazon.co.uk are listing the Pocket Books editions as November 29th for "The Empty Chair" and December 19th for the omnibus edition, both available in pre-order with the omnibus being just in time for Christmas, hopefully.)

I ordered the e-book on Monday, and they took my money and haven't sent me any info about downloading it. Any suggestions?
