From an article about the deploying of the International Space Station's new solar panels: one astronaut is mentioned...

...Christopher J. Ferguson, another Navy captain, who is on his first shuttle mission and is a member of the all-astronaut rock band Max Q.

The all-astronaut rock band??!!

Where do they play? Where can a geek(ette) buy their CDs? Someone must know...

(forget my last comment, that was a different band)

Well, they've got an album on Amazon.com

Nope. That band is the Reverse Engineers. Alas.

http://history.nasa.gov/wakeup%20calls.pdf says that they don't have an album, but they do play NASA functions.

Oh, but they ought to be called The Reverse Engineers. Like that all-writer band called The Rock Bottom Remainders.

I'd heard of them back in 1987 or so, because "Pinky" Nelson was getting all sorts of press coverage as one of the crew members for STS-26. I didn't realize they were still around.

Well, this is interesting news indeed!

You'd think a band like this would've had an album or two out by now, wouldn't you?

Here's the Wikipedia page about MaxQ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Q_(Astronaut_band)), and an article about them (http://airtranmagazine.com/contents/2005/04/spotlight-astronaut-band/) from its references.

The better question is: do they need a bass player? I can suit up to go any time! :D

... you know, I don't even need to hear them play, I am happier purely for knowing they exist.

On a note that has nothing at all to do with all-astronaut rock bands, I wanted to make sure you knew that there is a Teen Titans TV Movie (I somehow missed the news on this until just now). It's airing on Cartoon Network tonight, probably available on the net otherwise. Just FYI!
