I don't know about Ireland, but you can get them in England; a friend's mother has one and he's incredibly cute but a total delinquent. If he doesn't get enough attention, he'll pick wine glasses off the shelf by their stems and smash them on the floor until you pay attention to him.

Apparently they're really bright and not terribly well domesticated...but SO CUTE!

Bengals are renown for intelligence, and being a tad hyperactive. They are absolutley gorgeous but can be a real handful. There are a fair number of Bengal breeders in the UK, so I'd expect you'd be able to find one in Ireland.

After looking at those photos I have to go and convince myself that I don't need another cat. One is quite enough of a handful as it is, and he wouldn't appreciate the company.

There's a Bengal that wanders round near bellinghwoman's work. Very sweet and friendly, apparently.

The first Bengal we met was ten yars ago, when at a wedding in Memphis (the one beyond the Atlantic, not the one beyond the Mediterranean). Back then, they were rare, expensive, and prone to behavioural problems. I'm very glad that the breeders have made a better breed since them.

Bengals are pretty amazing cats, [as well as amazingly pretty!] and thanks to their wild genes they tend to be a bit playful, if not down-right hyper-active.

We live only about an hour away from Royal Palm, and visited them several years ago. Their cats really are as soft and cute as they make them out to be, and absolutely packed with personality (though not as wild as the Savannahs). They were, unfortunately, a bit too pricy for us at the time. Now I find myself thinking about it again...

The Bengal is a cross between the American Shorthair and the Asian Leopard Cat. So they 'should' get the lovely temperment of an American Shorthair with the wild intelligence of the Asian Leopard Cat.

The one I have is a total lovebug. She is happiest laying on my lap, or running at top speed around the house, or teaching our other cat how to open cupboards. At 6 yrs old she still acts very kittenish. She is very intelligent and bonded to me. She does get her nose out of joint if we don't give her enough attention though, her name should have been 'Princess.' But we love her lots.

When I first discovered the breed, I had to wonder why not just domesticate the Asian Leopard Cat? Well, it seems they only "do their business" in running water.
Not many people have streams running through their houses...
