So (for those of you who mailed to ask) here's the checklist for that appearance on Irish national TV, as per my predictions:

(1) (Studio car lateness?) Extreme: never got here at all: broke down somewhere near Naas. Local taxi company had to be recruited at last moment. (2) (Driver lost?) Didn't really have a fair chance: see 1. (3) (Haircut?) Turned out OK. (4) (Stuff to wear?) Did OK too. (5) (Thing I really should have expected to go wrong but didn't find out about until Peter called me afterwards?) This.

So much for my fifteen minutes of fame. :)

Oh well. We all had a good time.

You mean, ah, no wonder I could never find your books in the bookshops!

It's a shame there's no such thing as the Universal Spell Checker that you can turn on in the morning and ensure that everything around you is spelt correctly for the whole day.

(There was one once, but they accidentally let a greengrocer get his hands on the prototype, and he went and fiddled with it. They tried to reverse his reprogramming, but they never did get it fixed. In the end, they just canned the project, but the resulting erroneous apostrophes may be seen to this day.)

Much to my amusement, even with the header, I couldn't figure out what was wrong with the picture for nearly a minute. Now I'm entertained to the point of making a Livejournal icon from it, and condolences. Needless to say, permission to use the icon is yours to grant or not, at whim.

Oh lordy.

Which reminds me... Whenever I'm mindcontrollingurging one of my friends to buy your books, I pronounce it "Dou-ayne", which is probably quite inaccurate, but has the advantage of them probably being able to find the books.

As long as "we all had a good time", and we got to hear about it from you - sounds like fun.. at least in the retrospect... :)

Oh that's just... wrong! Ah well... as they said, at least you had good hair.

It's all about the hair. And the shoes. But I can't see your shoes. :)

Is it on line anywhere?

You ought to turn that into a user icon...

*grins*

Well, look on the bright side -- Isaac Asimov used to complain all the time that his name often got spelled wrongly -- once even on a published book. :) You're in good company, at least!
