(Hmm, sounds like a Doctor Who title. You can just hear the denouement. “All right, Masters of the Hydrox, now listen to me! In accordance with Section Eighteen, paragraph twelve of the Shadow Proclamation, and by virtue of the power vested in me as the last of the Time Lords, I order you to divest yourselves of all excess vanilla creme and —  oh, all right, not all, don’t look that way! Just lose the transfats and Bob’s your uncle.”)

…I liked them well enough when I was a kid: it’ll be interesting to see how they taste these days. Apparently they’re being “reissued” sometime this month.

Mmm, cookies... I'll have to try those!

Also, in response to the comment you left on my wall @ Facebook... I see! OldBSG isn't really my thing, but I adore newBSG. Of course, Mary McDonnell has a lot to do with that, but it's still brilliant stuff. I love that Ron actually does pay attention to fan feedback, even if he doesn't let it influence certain of his ideas, which is not always a bad thing.

I stopped eating Hydrox cookies -- and so did everyone I know -- in 1998, when Oreos became kosher-certified. Hydrox disappeared from the market in 1999. Coincidence? I think not.

I remember that I liked Oreos much better than Hydrox.

You know, I don't ever remember eating Hydrox cookies. My Mom always bought Oreos, thus so do I. I'll have to keep an eye out for them on my grocer's shelf and try them this time.

Clearly the Hydrox are in league with the Adipose, in a fiendish plot to take over the earth . . .

I always preferred Oreos to Hydrox for one reason--more cream filling! Sunshine was flat-out stingy with the filling.

I eat maybe a couple of dozen Oreos a year (opportunistically; I don't keep them in the house), so I'm not personally likely to make or break either Sunshine or Nabisco, but still . . . Oreos. Yeah.

Dr. Who? Hmm....Hydrox toxemia....causes sufferers to break out in adipose deposits on the hips, thighs, belly, and upper arms. May result in loss of mobility, elevated blood sugars. Long term damage includes possible kidney failure, loss of eyesight, circulatory issues leading to limb amputation. Oh, wait, that's diabetes. Same difference. :)

I found it interesting that Hydrox cookies actually pre-date Oreos—in other words, the "name brand" was actually the rip-off while the "genericky" Hydrox was the original.

Me, I've long since switched to the Trader Joe's equivalent (Joe Joes -- original formula chocolate cookie/chocolate creme filling, and no transfats).

Unfortunately, that would seem to take us from Doctor Who to...hmmm, maybe How I Met Your Mother?

The Hydrox weren't pulled off the shelves -- they were pulled into e-space by the Great Vampire....

At least it'll make Harlan happy. (I still prefer oreos).

Weirdly enough, I rather preferred Hydrox - not as scary sweet. I suppose if they do a sugar-free version I can compare it with Oreos' sugar-free version... not quite the same though.

The Hydrox sounds rather like an H.P. Lovecraft villain.

I think it was someone at Car and Driver (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car_and_Driver) magazine who once noted that with a name like Hydrox, it must have been made from petrochemical derivatives.

I'm not hopeful. Has anyone tried the new and 'improved' (healthier) Alpha-Bits? Like cardboard. Ugh!

I didn't realize Hydrox had gone anywhere. I don't buy a lot of cookies, and the only ones I usually do buy are Oreos, because my husband loves them.
