It's always fun when friends pass through the area. We spent the day yesterday with Bookslut's Jessa Crispin (and she spent the night at our place due to a non-manifesting bus-back-to-civilization) and had such a great time. (waves at Jessa!) Soon again!

And another mention elsewhere in Bookslut: So You Want to Be a Wizard is mentioned in Heather Smith's article on the covers of books with wizards on /in them, and (I think) wins.

We have arrived at the rarest example of wizard-based lit -- that with the classy, masterfully executed illustration.... For those who love stories about small children who run afoul of dragons, and yet are ashamed to admit so publicly, we suggest hiding this book under your pillow, next to your collection of small handguns. The current cover is simply too pleasant to contemplate altering.

:) So true. (Even if they get a little hung up on the dragon drool.) Yay Greg Swearingen!

Oh, *man*, I'm gonna have to buy the books with these covers! The DEEP WIZARDRY cover is *wonderful*! (DEEP WIZARDRY is one of my desert island books. An excuse to get another copy is just so terribly hard to accept. :))

Maybe I'm just easily lost, but clicking on the link "Heather Smith's article on the covers of books with wizards on/in them" didn't actually bring me to said article.

A little surfing around on the site did, though, and here's the direct link for future reference: http://www.bookslut.com/features/2007_08_011482.php

I must look out for other covers by Greg Swearingen. The portfolio on his site has some fine examples.

Indeed; that is some impressive drool...
As for book covers, I think the new Deep Wizardry cover is amazing.

I envision that my home may become a stopover for traveling Harry Potter fans. I try to keep spare blankets and a well-stocked cupboard for such potential situations.

I hadn't seen the US covers, I have all the UK first editions. The US ones do seem good, I also like the look of the new UK ones, I think I may be tempted to get a set...

Nice shout out.

I'm also obscurely pleased that the phrase "bookslut" passes through my workplace's Internet filters. *grins*

yahoo! bookslut passed my workplace's filters, too! And I shall keep pushing SYWTBAW at all young Harry Potter fans I run across in my local bookstore...

(and dang, did they ever nail those awful covers for "Howl's"...why in the WORLD they didn't reissue Howl's with art from the Miyazaki movie is beyond me.)
