In the note-taking department: a neat thing I found

While hunting for an answer to the problem mentioned in this entry, I came across something quite neat for the handling and organization of notes.

It's called TiddlyWiki. It is a one-file (HTML) wiki written in Java. It runs in your browser and acts like an online app even though it's locally saved (though I believe you can host it online if you prefer to). As a one-file operation, it's perfect for using as a "Wiki-on-a-Stick" running out of a USB drive / "pendrive": and this is the way I'm using it, since I tend to move back and forth between laptop and desktop from day to day, or even hour to hour, depending on what's going on.

TiddlyWiki is easy to use (it took me about ten minutes to get to grips with all the important functions) and very customizable. Besides having a search facility, it also supports keyword tagging, which I'm finding really useful.

Strongly recommended for those of you who have a project that's building up a lot of notes, but for which you don't need fancy-shmancy project managers with live chat and collaborative whiteboards and mindmaps hung all over them.

Glad you found it. I started using it several months ago to keep track of all my story ideas, characters, settings, etc. Now I can't imagine my life without it.

if he he's the same guy I think he is I remember Jeremy from around the nascent home computer industry. He wrote a bunch of books in the early eighties for companies like interface books.

It interesting to compare myself to see what i could have done if i hadn't be utterly mad for so long. He was kind of new him along with people like Jeff minter, and various other geeks

TiddlyWiki is Javascript, not Java. Despite the similarities in names, they are very different. Java requires a Java plugin and/or a Java Virtual Machine.
Javascript only requires any modern browser; no additional plug-ins required.

You probably knew that already. But just in case anyone reading was confused...

I am new to the writing community. I find the site interesting, but I am "old school", programs confuse me. I'm actually looking for advice, I would like to help the understanding of the Rihannsu culture via their cuisine. I am a cook (over 35 years come this Friday) and I got inspired to do this because of its lacking in webpages and the other Star Trek related cookbook, and many of my friends "play" Rihannsu.
