A moment from a screenplay:

EXT. SCHOOL -- AFTERNOON

The door into the playground cracks softly open. Kit peers out,
looks around. Then he slips out, followed by Nita.

From around the corner of the building, Joanne and her crowd emerge.
Nita and Kit pause, look at each other. Then, together, they head
toward Joanne and her gang.

A "High Noon" moment: the two factions move toward each other, Nita
and Kit grim and determined, Joanne and her bunch furious and bent on
revenge. As they close --

A REALLY BIG BANG of displaced air -- and, out on the playground, a
LEAR JET (with its engines idling) APPEARS out of nothing and DROPS
a couple of feet to the ground. Everyone stops right where they are,
staring.

                      KIT
              (astonished, impressed)
        What. The.

Joanne's gang, also astounded, do what everyone else in the area does:
they run over to look at the jet. Joanne, angry, goes after her posse.

                      JOANNE
              (to Nita)
         Later. Believe me.

Nita and Kit glance at each other, then at the still-flickering Fred
as he REAPPEARS between them.

                      KIT
         Fred! Nice going.

                      FRED
               (sounds sick)
I saw them, so I exerted myself a little.
         Can we go now?

                      NITA
         Yeah.

They head off around the corner of the building. Kit glances back
at the playground, full of the vast assortment of Fred's emissions.

                      KIT
What're they gonna do with all that stuff?

                      NITA
               (shrugs)
         Ebay?

They hurry O.S.

That is utterly gorgeous. Looks like I'll have to break out the initial trilogy again now and revisit old friends.

I'm actually a little scared: perfect screenplay aside, it'd be so easy to do this wrong..._really_ wrong.

OMG! I just realized that we'd get to hear Nita read the Oath.

...speaking of things that could go really wrong... ;-)

I'll be knocking on wood for you...continuously!

Ooh! Ooh ooh ooh!! Powers willing, when this makes it to the big screen, all us blog-readers need to coordinate and go see it in big, scary, rowan-wand-wielding groups. *dorky grin*

Screenplay! Wow, you just cheered me up. :D I know a movie can't fully capture the greatness of your world and characters, but it'll sure be fun to watch!

You know, I didn't even realize that "Ebay" was new until I read the comments.

You can take that as being very sad on my part, or just say it's because it fits in so incredibly perfectly with everything else.

I'll go see it with ya.

And I'm sure I'm not the only one here who agrees there's nothin sad about going to see a movie based on one's favorite book of yore.

OMG OMG

Well where do you live? We could make this a college student outing if you are in the metro New York area?!

Isn't it "Till universes' end?" not "End of Eternity?"

Um. Nope. Alas, I will be a college student (applications just went off) outside of the Big Apple. But I whole-heartedly support the idea of group movie-goings; we'll have to try to get those together if/when the movie happens.

we're having a bit of a discussion along those lines over in [livejournal.com profile] myriadwords; so far, the consensus is "Unknowns," but I'm rooting for Jude Law for the Lone Power, and I think someone's said that Christian Bale has always played Tom in their head.

oh, thanks for the heads up. I agree some unknowns, but for the non-humans, it'd be fun to cast voices. Since that is a huge part of most kids films these days. Thanks!

So *this* is what happens when you put aside a manuscript for 15 years before writing the next draft... A nifty little update! :)

Have fun with the screenplay, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for the movie!

Exactly my thought. I mean, SoIAF is only optioned (but by HBO!), and DD's just working on a screenplay (but what a screenplay!), but steps in the right direction towards actual global domination. :)

Stop tormenting us like this! :) Man, it's nice to know that not only will it truly be SYWTBAW?, it will also have all sorts of good juicy new bits in it for those of us who have the book memorized from reading our copies dog-eared.

Now, do DOOR INTO FIRE...! >-)

Now this, this I want to see...I noticed the differences between my nineties hardback and the paperback set I had ('You don't even have a color television!'). I'm so glad it looks like the story will be a contemporary one, instead of set in the eighties. They did that to rent and it just didn't work...

I do that all the time at work. It is common place to have me giving off more than a few Squee's at work, or in my room (College dorms) I Squeed so hard one night I woke up my RA. X.x Its okay, when I told him what it was about (A comic con) he Squeed too.
