This appeared in a for-sale version on BoingBoing a couple of years ago; but Peter came across a do-it-yourself version of it today. With this gadget, you can use a full bottle of soda, water, what have you, as an impromptu tripod for your camera.

"Total cost is $3.37, not including the Pepsi."

This is really cool! I don't like to carry my tripod on the Metro, but always want to have it once I get downtown. With this in my bag, all I'll need is a street vendor (to buy the soda from).

Those have always worried me, those bottles arn't exceptionally balanced on their own. With a camera mounted on top it would seem they would be even less stable, and would be prone to flipping over (hopefully not with a full bottle of now-fizzy Pepsi aimed directly through the bolt-hole at the camera)

With a largish bottle, half-filled, I think you'd be OK. The camera we're planning to use with this is so small (about the size of a pack of cigs) and light that I'm not too worried about it flipping.

Agreed, though, that a large *pyramidal* bottle of Pepsi would be best. :)
