Our major satellite TV provider, Sky, will shortly be showing all six Star Wars films at once on Sky Movies. As part of the promotional campaign for this, they've constructed some amusing little thirty-second spots, a couple of which are styled like their own ads and use Sky voice talent and onscreen presenters. (The "VI" visual motif they're using for the six movies turns up here and there.)

I didn't think it'd take too long before these showed up on YouTube. Here are some links:

  • Sky Travel: Visit Tattooine (complete with correctly-positioned, alien-fonted upper corner "bug")
  • Sky News Weather: Weather on Hoth (note the wretchedly omnipresent Sky bottom-of-the-screen crawl banner, which the designer here mimics perfectly)
  • Star Wars: Villains
  • Star Wars: Heroes

Not to mention an all-six-films-in-a-minute spot that out-Sorensens Sorensen and Raines' Reduced Star Wars Company from lat year's worldcon....

I can't understand a thing the weatherperson is saying. Is the sound supposed to be that horrid? Arrrrrgh. (and people wonder why I don't watch TV news.)

They're showing them all at once?

My eldest daughter thought it amusing that on one of the nights Sky was showing "Star Wars" followed by "Forty Year Old Virgin"

I liked how the weather presenter was a Star Wars-style hologram, similar to the ones of Obi-wan in A New Hope or the Emperor in The Empire Strikes Back.

Nice touch, that.

The important question is, how many people out there were able to read it in real time?

Enough to find it amusing.
