...in Belfast this weekend.

For those of who who might not have been following Peter's LJ lately, over the previous weekend a horsefly bit him. He normally doesn't react well to such things (physically, I mean: forget the verbal response, it gets rather old after about five minutes...), but this time he swelled up far more spectacularly than usual. A visit to the doctor after a few days (as his arm continued to increase in size as if he'd sublet it from the Incredible Hulk) revealed that not only was he having an aggravated version of his traditional reaction to this kind of bug bite, but the bite was also infected and the infection was spreading.

The doctor stuck him full of antibiotics and cortisone and sent him home. Unfortunately the arm just kept on swelling, and when the swelling started happening elsewhere as well, we headed straight back to the doctor and discovered that he was probably having a reaction to the cortisone too, and the infection wasn't responding. What joy...!

So now he's home on painkillers and different antibiotics and whatnot, and the doctor has told him to just stay right where he is -- in bed -- and not act like a crazy person and try to go anywhere. Which is what P. would have done: he wanted to go up north and "show off his arm."  (eyeroll)

My apologies to those of you who were hoping to see us in Belfast. But it's as they say: sometimes Stuff Happens.

Oh, well, there's always next year...

Erk!

Commiserations to P. We sort of thought about doing Mecon, but this close to our convention (eek, 14 days!), we're sort of in headless chicken mode.

We sincerely hope we'll see you in Hinckley in a fortnight. Otherwise, well, September. Tell P. that he's under strict orders to get better. Now. No arguments. (And no pretending to be better. We want the real thing.)

He's got 2 weeks to get better... I don't want to have to re-juggle seating plans at the Gala Dinner! :)

My mom just got over a case of cellulitis (infection with major swelling) from a bug bite. That is seriously scary stuff, and not to be fooled around with. (Worst case scenarios include amputation.) So you just sit on him if need be. :) Or at least tell him that the arm can go north but he's staying put. *nods firmly*

(I'm not a doctor but I play one on LJ. In real life I'm an acupuncturist. Still not a doctor. Still not the king either.)

Damn. I'm sorry to hear that. We'll all miss you up here, and will hopefully see you in the not-too-distant future.

Tell Peter get well soon from me!

Tell P about this new, magical device....

It's called a "digital camera" and would allow him to "show off his arm" globally. <shakes head>

Here's hoping he gets better soon.

Bummer. Harry was really looking forward to seeing you guys too. Loads of healing thoughts coming Peters way from Leeds.

Urgh. That really does sound nasty. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. And as others have said... he had better be fighting fit in 2 weks time, or I'll...
I'll....
I'll.... just have to pester somone else for sound effects and cat stories.

Seriously make him take it easy and get well soon.

Ooh, thats not fun. I do hope the swelling goes down quickly. My dad recently had his leg swell up something like that... though in his case it was because his leg ended up between a quickly moving boat up at site and a rather solid rock. The 'good idea at the time' was to prevent damage to the boat by slowing it before impact. He admits now that it was a 'stupid move' and would rather stop hearing about it. ^_-;;

I couldn't resist with the Hulk blog though, some entertainment while Peter's healing up: http://hulk-smashy.livejournal.com/

Nuts to what's ailing Peter. May it do the honourable thing upon itself post-haste and return Peter to his normal life thereby.

Take pictures :)

That type of thing is good to show off AFTERWARDS. *grin* My father looked like a Frankenstein monster at one point... that's what plowing down off a bicycle into a gravel path will get you. (His face healed up fine, much surprising his doc.)

Please give him my best wishes, and I hope all is going well and getting better.
Hopefully I'll have to chance to meet up with you both sooner rather than later, but worse case there's always P-Con4 next year. At least I hope you'll both be there - I cant imagine running my first convention without you two there.
