This guy does some of the most astonishing trompe l'oeil / spoof-the-eye chalk drawings I've ever seen. (I assume he has a web page somewhere, but I don't know where, so I've made a little web page for them at our own site. These images came to me from one of our Swiss friends this morning. Thanks, Res!)

Res says: "Julian Beever is an English artist who's famous for his art on the
pavements of England, France, Germany, the USA, Australia and Belgium." I can get a sense of why that would be...

His sidewalk art is incredible, the realism of the image is amazing. Redminds me of sandcastles, an amazing ammount of time and talent goes into creating a work of art that will be gone when it rains.

His website, is at : http://users.skynet.be//J.Beever/pave.htm , it's loading very slowly for me at the moment, but the art is well worth the wait.

Another guy who does the same thing in a more "classical" style. Neat stuff!

I can't see it.

I mean, I know it's fake. I _know_ it. And I'm staring at it and staring at it and it _just_looks_real_.

*boggles*

The trick is that they only work if you're standing and looking at them from one perspective. He has pictures of them on his site of what they look like from the other way, and it breaks the illusion quite well.

I remember seeing another one of these, depicting the Batman on a rescue gig. Same artist?

SO. MUCH. LOVE.

I wonder how much planning that took. I love how it utilizes the wall. The use of the location-specific elements makes it feel so much like a spontaneous thing, even though that's totally impossible.
