Date: 2007-11-09 07:28 pm (UTC)I'm generally unsympathetic to the idea of unions, but I'm quite sympathetic to the goals of this strike, which is more important (specifics trumping generalities; in general). I do think the writers are undervalued, and setting things up so they get *nothing* from legal downloads is crazy, at the level of being not sustainable. And this sort of situation is one of the best arguments *for* unions being needed.
Film accounting and money-splitting is one of the weirdest areas of accounting anyway. Some sort of major clean-up would be in order, but I suspect the actual environment is so complex that mandated simplifications would turn out to misrepresent the real world badly. Sigh.
