In the 'Things I'm not sure I wanted to know, but what the heck' department

Thanks to the various people who mailed me about this. I think.

Greetings from Amazon.co.uk,

We've noticed that customers who have expressed interest in The Wizard's Dilemma (Young Wizards (Paperback)) by Diane Duane have also ordered The Collector's Edition of Victorian Erotic Discipline by Brooke Stern.  For this reason, you might like to know that this book will be released on 18 January 2007....

Oooooooookay...

Now playing: Alan Menken & Howard Ashman - Jafar's Hour

Clearly, I need to read your book and see if my mind makes an association.

Not surprising, they've heard about you and Peter :)

That does kind of have to be the assumption, doesn't it? (snicker)

LOL....I just...yeah...I got nuthin'

Heh, I just received that gem this morning and was about to send it to you. If they'd been reading the Feline Wizards books then I could see the Victorian connection...

(I wonder how many customers have ordered both. Two, since it's plural? Since that book isn't even released yet I wouldn't have thought it would be all that many.)

Oh damn, if I'd known Amazon was going to be broadcasting my taste in books to the world...

You do realise this will have to be a topic of discussion at P-Con? :-)

(snort) I don't see how it can be avoided. (headclutch)

Oh my. *laughs*

You're welcome. I'm kinda relieved to know that it wasn't just me Amazon was targeting with that one...

*snickers*

One more weird recommendation by amazon based on what's been read, bought or rated by an unsuspecting customer.

I've gotten my share of downright strange recs as well, both from amazon.co.uk and amazon.com. Why the HELL should I want to buy Britney Spears CDs *gag* just because I bought the Buffy Season 7 Box Set? (The only VERY remote connection I can see is that there are two short blondes involved ...)

Funnily enough, the 'bot at amazon.de seems to work a little more sensibly, basing recommendations on actual past purchases by subject/author/genre.

*wonders whether I should check out Victorian Erotic Discipline just because I've bought Young Wizards books*

Amazon is of the crazy all 'round. The recommendations have gotten weirder since I accidentally admitted I have a PS2 (no, owning Kingdom Hearts does not mean I'm going to want Madden NFL, especially not for the XBox), but I think they still haven't topped the vampire softcore porn movie that would be perfect for me because I own Wyrd SIsters.

Ah, that must have been me :-P

mwahaha.

In a slightly earlier incarnation, Amazon once informed me that "People who bought this book (no, I don't remember what it was) also wear underpants." *boggle*
