But only because it's too late for us to endanger mammoths much.

However, buying and selling mammoth ivory and other fossils encourages the trade in fossils. This in turn leads to the vandalism and destruction of archaeological and palaeontological sites - which is why I tend to get quite angry when people show me fossils they have bought.

My dad is an archaeologist, and I--yeah, there weren't really words for the incandescence of the anger I feel towards the people who do this.
