They're a tad over the top, aren't they? Tacky is a word that springs to mind, which is quite sad. I've seen proper scrimshaw and they look a lot nicer than that. Seems to me a waste of ivory, although why it can't be left in the ground is beyond me.

However, buying and selling mammoth ivory and other fossils encourages the trade in fossils. This in turn leads to the vandalism and destruction of archaeological and palaeontological sites - which is why I tend to get quite angry when people show me fossils they have bought.

My dad is an archaeologist, and I--yeah, there weren't really words for the incandescence of the anger I feel towards the people who do this.

That's not scrimshaw.

Or rather, it's "scrimshaw" only by virtue of it being engraving on an ivory base, which I'm sure is the only reason they get away with calling it that. Is it bad that seeing the words "fossilised mammoth" immediately transported me to a Jennings story in particular a talking book version read by Stephen Fry where he says those very words in the voice of a triumphant 10 year old?

Hmmm i think i need some help.

Oh and they do look a bit clunky, don't they? Not the most elegant of wrist-wear I'm thinking.
