Yes, the gibbet is still there (or was last time I checked, anyway), by the side of the road. It's a little odd to be eating in the fine Chinese Restaurant close by and to be gazing at it over one's meal.
It's a crossroads. And what is now the minor road is what used to be the Great North Road, alias Ermine Street, the Roman road down which Constantine the Great came to London after his acclamation in York. So when the gibbet went up, it was a major crossroads.
