I too have noted this, and find it tiresome to have piles of people deciding that because someone seems good, they cannot possibly be as good as they seem. They keep picking at the edges, hoping that they'll be able to find one, rip it off, and reveal... what? A clockwork god, or a scheming villain.

Since, at some level, you find what you seek, I don't like what that implies about what our culture is encouraging. :,
