Up until now I have never realised how privileged I was in having parents that never censored what I read, except for sexual content, when I was under 16. Even then, so long as it wasn't too explicit it was allowed. After all Dragonflight was first read when I was about 11.
I followed the same principle with my daughter too. I never censored, though did advise as to content. Though I warned her about the Twilight series, not because of content but because of how they were written. Even now she still asks me sometimes to read a book before her, just to let her know if it has any explicit scenes, so she can avoid them.
