Nothing you say particularly surprises me, something for which I'm somewhat grateful (I love new shiny things, but I also enjoy when my assumptions are correct).
What does strike me as peculiar, and only in that I realize I didn't think of it before, is how fed up they are about our politics. Not that this is in any way not understandable, believe me, but I am more astounded, perhaps a little ashamed that it /did/ surprise me.
I suppose what I haven't grasped yet, and may not without sufficient research, is how (beyond the obvious 'who we go to war with') our politics affect other countries (and why it's in their interest to be concerned/consider it newsworthy). I'm inclined to believe it may be the same issue the US media has-- nothing better to talk about, and too much time to fill.
