And just before I take the flu medicine that will knock me on my butt....

(It's this stuff, BTW. You can only get it in Switzerland and Canada [but the Canadian stuff isn't as strong as the Swiss]. It's worth the trip. It does the job.)

...Videos about the writers' strike are coming up like mushrooms after the rain. Browsing through the dewy meadows of YouTube, I came across this one. I've always been a sucker for a strong graphic statement...)

I recognize every single quote in that video, and I'm about as isolated from popular culture as it's possible to get. Sometimes I've seen it in the original, the rest I know it from friends, know it's from some movie/video thing but not necessarily which.

I'm generally unsympathetic to the idea of unions, but I'm quite sympathetic to the goals of this strike, which is more important (specifics trumping generalities; in general). I do think the writers are undervalued, and setting things up so they get *nothing* from legal downloads is crazy, at the level of being not sustainable. And this sort of situation is one of the best arguments *for* unions being needed.

Film accounting and money-splitting is one of the weirdest areas of accounting anyway. Some sort of major clean-up would be in order, but I suspect the actual environment is so complex that mandated simplifications would turn out to misrepresent the real world badly. Sigh.
