Fellow bag / handbag users: here's a thought

Handbag hooks.

Handbag hooks diagram

Get the purse or computer bag up off that sticky floor and into your more or less direct line of view when you're at table.

I'm going to get one of these. Getting tired of looping the purse/computer bag over my knee all the time and cutting off the circulation...

Nice idea if you have a conventional handbag. I hate being encumbered, however, so I routinely do what all the style advice gurus insist that Thou Shalt Not Do, and wear a handbag with a long shoulder strap slung diagonally across my body.

I admit it probably wouldn't work if I had a cleavage... :-)

And if you're camping, you can hook it to a tree branch to keep it away from bears and/or wolverines.

I have cleavage, and I still do that anyway. That is, when I use a bag. Most of the time I don't bother with a bag and use a "hamster jacket" - a lightweight sleeveless photographer's/fisherman's/hunter's multi-pocket thing - my current one has 16 separate pockets.

This is a great idea! I also wear a cross-body bag (and trust me, the people at Those Fashion Shows would have more important things to criticise about me than the way I wear my handbag!), but I think it would work even with a long strap, and it is much better than wrapping it round my knee. Thanks for this link!

I haave to carry my handbag cross strap wise, it falls off any other way.
Didn't know it was a style "No No" but then I ignore fashion dictates anyway.

The only thing is if you do this on one of those bijoux bistrot tables, you may well tip over the table unless you coordinate very careful with a friend sitting on the opposite side.

My mother uses one of those all the time =)

I have a cleavage but I do exactly the same thing. It was only when the cross-over tops came into fashion that I realised that I do gesture to covention by always having the strap running from left shoulder to right hip, "the ladies' cross".

I initially read your entry as 'handbag books' not 'handbag hooks'. I love this idea, I hate puting my purse on the ground but feel a bit odd placing it on the tabletop. And if you are intersted in 'handbag book' Shojobeat published a DIY article on them in I believe the September edition on how to make your own handbag book. You could make a hardback Wizards at War Handbag if you wanted to :D

I gave up handbags about 8 years ago, and now routinely wear a belt-pack (what Americans call "fanny packs", but I wear it in front) instead. It leaves my hands free, and I never have to worry about walking off and forgetting it; it also carries everything I really need* without collecting random stuff that ends up weighing a ton! The only thing I miss about a purse is that I could carry a paperback in it.

* Wallet, personal checkbook, business checkbook, keys, pen, nail file/clippers, lip gloss, mini-multitool, thumb drive, business cards, spare ponytail-wrap, folding fan, cellphone, measuring tape.

I use the long shoulder-strap variety of bag, and simply sit on the strap.

(And it's made of nylon, so if it gets manky I just stick it in the washing machine.)

meh. I gave up on handbags a long time ago. If it can't fit in my wallet or comfortably in a pants pocket, it's not worth carrying.

Wallet, keys. That's it.

So awesome.

I have a couple of these and I LOVE them. Nothing like nastiness on your purse from a restaurant floor to convert you real quick, and we're not even gonna talk about bars. Yeucch.

Even More Awesome.

I was just searching around on Ebay and found these (http://www.silverhooks.com/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=58), and I promptly ordered one. At 1.5 inches in diameter, it's hard to beat how compact it is, and it'll hold up to 15 pounds! Can't wait to see how it works.
